Bangkok had Korean restaurants. It had halal restaurants. What it didn't have — almost — was a place where Muslim diners could trust both halves at once. K-Uncle exists to close that gap.
We started K-Uncle because a group of us — Thai Muslims, Korean expats, food obsessives — kept hitting the same wall in Bangkok. The Korean restaurants we loved weren't halal. The halal restaurants we found weren't really Korean. Most "Korean halal" places were halal restaurants with Korean items on the menu, prepared by chefs who'd never been trained in Korean cooking.
We wanted both — without compromise. So in 2024 we opened the first K-Uncle.
Every K-Uncle kitchen is set up to halal standards from the ground up. There is no pork on the premises. No alcohol in the sauces. Every ingredient — meat, sauces, fermented condiments — is sourced from halal-certified suppliers, and stored, prepared, and served in separated zones.
We partnered with Makan, an established halal certification body, to audit our ingredients, kitchen workflow, and staff training. The certification isn't a sticker on the door. It's a continuous process — re-audits, supplier checks, and staff refreshers — designed to give Muslim diners genuine peace of mind.
The Korean side is just as serious. Our chefs are Korean-trained, which means the gochujang we use, the way we ferment kimchi, and the way we cut rice cakes for rabokki all follow Korean technique — not Thai approximations.
